Summer job at Pilegrim Center Oslo
Do you have experience with the Pilgrim trail Gudbrandsdalsleden in Norway? Pilgrim Center Oslo currently has an opening for a summer job position for summer 2026.
We are looking for someone who is service minded and responsible, has good English language skills and preferably pilgrimage experience. The job offers a rare opportunity to meet, talk to and guide people who are considering or planning pilgrimages in Norway.
The Oslo Pilgrim Center is located in Bispegården, next to the ruins of St. Hallvard's Cathedral. At the entrance of the cathedral stands the famous milestone with the text “643 km to Nidaros”. Every year, more than 1,000 pilgrims from around 40 different countries begin their journey here.
The pilgrim route in Norway consists of nine trails and 12 pilgrim centers. The Oslo Pilgrim Center is responsible for the following trails with in our region: Gudbrandsdalsleden East and West, Tunsbergleden, and Borgleden.
As an employee at the Pilgrim Center, you will welcome pilgrims who want information about the pilgrim trails. You will sell guidebooks, pilgrim passports, and souvenirs. You will also be responsible for our web store Oslo Pilgrim Shop and shipping orders. The job also includes providing guidance to pilgrims by phone or email. Much of the communication is in English and it is also good if you know some German.
At the center you will work alongside one of the experienced pilgrim hosts. The center also works closely with the other pilgrim centers along the trails, and if you get questions that you cannot answer, you can always contact one of the other centers.
The Olav Chapel, that is located in the same building, dates back to the 13th century. Every morning we celebrate a short pilgrim mass in English at 10:00 a.m. The mass is ecumenical and led by volunteer priests from various communities in Oslo. Your task is to make sure that the participants finds their way to the chapel.
Job duties
- Welcome pilgrims who are beginning their pilgrimage in Norway
- Sell guidebooks, pilgrim passports, and souvenirs
- Manage the web store Oslo Pilgrim Shop
- Answer phone calls and emails
Qualifications
- Independent, organized, and flexible
- Fluent in English, preferably also German.
- Enjoys meeting people and is service-minded
- It is an advantage if you have walked Gudbrandsdalsleden.
- Personal suitability is emphasized
