Buvik Church has an octagonal shape and has the pulpit placed above the altar.

The first church in Buvika was built at Presthus around year 1250. It was probably a private farm church, because for a long time the congregation belonged to the St. Michael's Church on Stein, now called Byneset Church. The second church was built in 1658 at Fallet. Here it stood until the landslide on 30 June 1728. The church was not entirely taken by the landslide, but remained on the edge. The third church was built in 1728 from the remains of the previous one. The fourth church, today's church in Buvika, was built in 1819, it is built in timber and has the shape of an octagon and is a central church.
