Døving Chapel

Situated along Valldalsleden
Old church site in Valldal

There has been two churches/chapels in Døving. We don't know when the first was erected, some believe it was erected after St. Olav travelled through the valley in 1029. The first written account we have of the chapel is from 1589, and in 1766 it was confirmed that there has been two chapels on the site though another written account.

The new church was most likely built in 1754, but didn't stay here for long. In 1812 it was taken down and moved to Sylte where it served as a parish church until the present day church was completed in 1863. Today, there is a menhir here as a memory of the chapel.

Det gamle alterbordet med relikviegjemme står i dag i Sylte kirke, men kommer fra den gamle kirken på Døving.
