The small town of Dovre is located north in Gudbrandsdalen, by the entrance to Dovrefjell, and is the administrative center for the municipality of the same name
This village is located south of Dovrefjell and has given name to the spectacular mountain range. The river Gudbrandsdalslågen runs through this mountain village.
The municipality is part of Oppland county and has 2776 inhabitants (2010). Dovre municipality has traditionally been an agricultural municipality. There is still many who works in agriculture and forestry, but trade, transport and tourism has now become the leading industries.
