Egersund Church is a key site in Egersund and the city’s oldest building. It was originally constructed as a low-roofed long church in the 1620s.

The discovery of a standing stone-like gravestone with runes suggests that there was already a church in Egersund in the 11th century, but it is only in 1292 that records confirm the existence of a church in Egersund.

The current church, located on what was once called Hedningeholmen, is believed to be a direct successor to this earlier church.

After a renovation at the end of the 19th century, it became the second-largest church in Rogaland, with 1,160 seats.
