The concrete lighthouse with the curved roofs. Geitungen Lighthouse was automated and depopulated in 1994 and is now protected under the Cultural Heritage Act. Haugesund Tourist Association operates the lighthouse as a tourist cabin, just like other cabins managed by the association.
Geitungen Lighthouse is one of the youngest lighthouses in Norway. It was first lit in 1924 and replaced the lighthouse at Skudenes, which had been in operation since 1799. The main reason for building the lighthouse was to secure the entrance to Boknafjorden, and in fact, a new fog signal in this area was one of the main reasons the lighthouse was placed where it stands.
