Grønningene summer farm

Situated along Valldalsleden
Here Olav chased away both trolls and evil spirits

According to legend, St. Olav spent the night at Grønning summer farm and chased away both trolls and evil spirits during his journey through Valldal. This has given this farm a special meaning for the locals and pilgrims who walk along the old pilgrim trail.

Today, Grønning summer farm is a popular hiking destination, and visitors can experience the traditional summer farm atmosphere and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Snorri writes this about Olav and the farm in the sagas of the Kings:

"He was at the summer farm at night. But at midnight, when people were sleeping, a terrible cry was heard outside the farm, and they shouted: "King Olaf's prayers burn me so that I cannot be in my home. I must move and never come to this farm again." In the morning, when the people awoke, the king went up into the mountain. But before departing he told Bruse (the local chieftain), "Here you will have a farm built, and the farmer who lives here will always prosper, and the grain will never freeze here, even if it freezes everywhere else around the farm"
