The river sings a melody that sounds through the centuries. One can hear it far down in the bottom of the valley. In the Middle Ages, a church stood here. A church that at some point disappeared again, while the river kept singing its timeless melody. And then, one day a new little church was erected on the other side of the river - a small pilgrim chapel. This time it is not a king that has ordered the making of the church, but a group of local idealists with little money but with a lot of will and agency.

There is a cemetery from the viking age just north west of the chapel. The most famous find from the cemetery is Risengelen, The Rise Angel. It is a small figure of bronze of the archangel Michael, made in Ireland in the 8th or 9th century. Perhaps was it a decoration on a shrine. The angel was found in the cemetery in the 19th century and has given name to the Chapel - St. Michael's Chapel.
