Prestegårdsskogen is a good example of a burial ground from a period of transition between pagan religion and christianity in Norway.

On the trail
History tells us that the transition to christianity was sudden and violent, but this is not necessarily true. Even if St. Olav was firm in his work to convert the Norwegian people to christianity, there is still proof that indicates that this transition happened gradually over time. The burial mounds at Prestegårdsskogen is an example of this. Places that were considered holy in pagan Norway, were redefined as christian in the Middle Ages.
