At Rød Manor, you find yourself in a home, where time has stood still. It is equally exciting for young and old; here you will find real lion carpets, famous artists such as Hans Gude, royal bedrooms and the sword of Tordenskiold himself. And much more.
The park at Rød Herregård is over 300 years old. The garden was laid out as a large baroque garden with straight paths, terraces, fishponds and a pavilion in the middle of the main axis. Later it was extended with an English countryside garden. The pavilion from 1756 still stands in the park, in addition you can walk through a hazel avenue and a lime tree tunnel. Take a walk under large deciduous trees, try to see if you can find the hermit's hut or just relax and enjoy the view to the fjord.
Around the year 1720, some of the members of the Tank family moved from Denmark to Norway and in 1733 Carsten Tank d.e. bought Rød. The family then owned the manor until the beginning of the 1800s, when his son-in-law Peter Martin Anker took over the property. The Anker family lived at the manor until the mid-1950s. In 1961, a foundation was established by the Anker-Rasch family. Today, Red Manor is run by the Red Manor Foundation.
