The church of Sandefjord is built on top of a white wooden church from 1872. This wooden church burned to the ground during the fire that devastated the city of Sandefjord in 1900. The church we see today was built in 1903 and has gone through many interior changes since then. The altar piece, made of mahogany, was made by Dagfinn Werenskiold in 1963. It consists of 17 frames depicting the life of Jesus Christ.

One of the finest organs (Marcussen) in the country is housed in this church. The church is also known for its great acoustics. Many concerts are frequently being held in the church, both day and night. Check out its web page (above) to find out more.

The pilgrim trail goes through the city centre of Sandefjord by a medieval farm, Pukkestad, to Sandar churchyard. The city trail, created by river flows, is arched and likely unchanged since the Reformation in Norway. In other words, this is a medieval road. On your way trough Sandefjord you'll pass a catholic church, the Chapel of Olav, and several other churches belonging to “Den norske kirke” (The church of Norway).
