Written sources mention Selånger Church for the first time in 1314, but it has been a church site here since the early Middle Ages. The church ruins close by are from the late 12th century. The present day church was completed in 1781.

Selånger Church was built in the years 1780-1781 by the master builders Daniel Lundquist and Johan Christoffer Loell, according to drawings by Olof Tempelman. The church building consists of a nave with a choir in the east and a church tower in the west. East of the choir, there is a sacristy.
