Solli Church

In the lower part of the river, owners form the nearby manor, built sawmills during the 1500s for cutting timber. During the latter part of the 1800s, the place developed into one of Northern Europe's largest sawmills, and the workers demanded their own church. 
It took almost fifty years for the workers to get their own church. 

Solli church opened in 1904 and is beautifully located on a small knoll, surrounded by beautiful oak trees and deciduous forest. In the cemetery there is a memorial to the fallen soldiers who participated in the war against Sweden in 1814. 

The story about the church area is that the Swedish queen Désirée Clay named the place after her. Only 17 years old, she had betrothed herself to Napoleon Bonaparte, but later she married her compatriot Jean Baptiste Bernadotte. He was adopted by the Swedish king Karl II and inherited the Swedish throne in 1818, under the name Karl XIV Johan, whom we know from the statue outside the Royal Palace in Oslo.

The Desideria grove is a nature reserve since 2016. 

On the banks of the river at the gallery site Soli Brug, the foundations of the old sawmills still stand.
