Torgalsåsen bygdeborg (hill-top fort)

When you walk along the pilgrim trail near Berby Mansion, you’ll see a steep hill rising above the farm. On the top, are the remains of a fort, most likely dating back to the early Iron Age.

There are hill top forts all over Norway, but nobody really knows exactly in what way they were used. Some believe that the forts were used as refuges during troubled times, others believe they were guard posts. The pilgrim trail does not go all the way up the hill, but if you dare climb to the top, you’ll be rewarded with an amazing view of the area.
