Gustav Vigeland dedicated much of his life to this unique park consisting of over 200 sculptures in bronze, granite and wrought iron. In addition to carving the sculptures he designed the 80 acre park that surrounds them. The park was completed in 1949.

Most of the sculptures are gathered in five units alongside a 850 meter long axis: the Main portal, the Bridge at the childrens area, the Fountain, the Monolith plateau and the Circle of life.
