Tune Church

Tune Church was erected in 1863, but the location has been a church site since the 12th century. The earlier medieval church was taken down, and its materials used to rebuild the new church.

The first church at the top of the row was probably erected in the early 1100s. 

 In 1627, an oblong stone with a two-sided inscription appeared in the churchyard wall. It turned out to be one of the longest known runic inscriptions in the country. 

In 1863 a new church was built, the medieval church was demolished, and the materials used to build the new church on the same foundation.

Today's church is the third church on the same site. In 1908, the church amost burned to the ground. It was rebuilt the following year, in 1909. Little, therefore, remains of the medieval church's materials, except for the altar stone.
