Day 1: Bergen - Eivindvik - Gulatinget - Dingja
You must bring your own bike on this tour. The bike tour starts in Eivindvik, the municipal center of Gulen municipality on the south side of the Sognefjord. Here is also located the key place of Gulatinget , one of the oldest town halls in the Nordic countries from the 10th-14th centuries.
If you come to Eivindvik by boat from Bergen, you can take your bike on one of the two express boats to Nordfjord or Sogn . Both depart at 08:00, and the boat trip takes around 1.5 hours . You get off the boat in Sollibot, and follow a gravelled hiking path of 2.5 km to Borgstova , right next to the church in the centre of Eivindvik. In Borgstova you can stamp your pilgrim passport and find more information about the area.
In Eivindvik there are two late crosses from the early 11th century, both carved in Hyllestad. The English stone cross is on Krossteigen. above the town hall, and The Celtic stone cross stands by the gate of Eivindvik Church . The church is open every day during the summer season.
In the center of Eivindvik you can follow a cultural trail on kulturvandring.no . Here you will find, among other things, the Herresalen where pastor Nils Griis Alstrup Dahl lived and worked in the first half of the 19th century. He was a pastor in Gulen, a member of parliament and an avid public educator. The author Henrik Wergeland writes about him in the poem Eivindvig.
At the shop in Eivindvik there is a coffee machine. You can also boy food at Eivindvik brygge in the summer season. Your next stop is Gulatinget at Flolid, 4 km east of Eivindvik. Here the artist Bård Breivik has created a monumental work called "Thingveggen" (the thing wall) in memory of the Gulatinget, the first parliamentary assembly, which was probably held here. The park is open all year round. There is no café here, so remember to bring a packed lunch.
After visiting Flolid, take the same road back to Eivindvik. Here you can spend the night at Eivindvik pier, or you can cycle back to Sollibotn and then 6.5 km further into the Sognefjord to Dingja. The road here winds beautifully along the fjord with great views. You can buy food at the general store in Dingja, but remember to check the opening hours. If you contact the host before you arrive, you can arrange shopping. Alternatively, you can shop in Eivindvik. In Dingja it is also possible to rent a sauna and take a bath in the Sognefjord.

Day 2: Dingja - Hyllestad - Sørbøvåg
From Dignja you cycle 16 km further inland along the Sognefjord to Rutledal ferry pier and take the ferry across to Rysjedalsvika. The ferry leaves every 1-3 hours, so check the departure times at https://www.skyss.no/ . There is some climbing on parts of the road, so allow plenty of time.
From the ferry pier in Rysjedalsvika, cycle 6.5 km along County Road 57 to Leirvik, and then turn left onto County Road 607 towards Hyllestad. After 7.4 km, you will arrive at the Millstone Park in Hyllestad . This is Northern Europe's largest stone quarry from the Middle Ages, and was in operation from the 8th century until the beginning of the 20th century. Millstones were sent from Hyllestad to large parts of Europe, and many of the large stone crushers along the coast were also quarried here. The Millstone Park is open and accessible all year round, and you can get a stamp in your pilgrim's passport.
From the millstone park it is a nice walk to Hyllestad old churchyard. Here you will find three smaller stone crosses from the Middle Ages placed in the corners of the churchyard wall. You can also visit Hyllestad church where a fragment of another stone cross is kept. On the way you can also stop at Åfjordstein where you can buy locally produced stone products made from the same material as the old stone crushers. Contact the owner to open the shop. If you want a living introduction to history, you can book a tour or other activities at https://vikingfootprints.com/ .
After your visit to Hyllestad, you can cycle 10 km along the Åfjord to the pilgrim hostel Sogn Hostel. There is plenty of space and a large kitchen where you can cook your own food. You can shop at Sørbøvåg general store 2 km further out, or at Spar in Hyllestad .

Day 3: Sørbøvåg - Korssund - Askvoll - (Atløy) - Eivindvik/Bergen
In Korssund in Fjaler municipality, Olav Haraldsson is said to have opened the rock to sail through the strait, and he is said to have erected the largest and perhaps most beautiful of all the stone crosses along the West Coast.
To get here, you first cycle 21 km along county road 61, and then turn left 3.2 km along Korssundvegen. After visiting Olavskrossen, you can buy lunch at Joker Korssund in the old guesthouse. Here you will also find a guest harbor with sanitary facilities.
After lunch, cycle back to county road 61, and turn left towards Fure ferry pier . Here you take the ferry to Askvoll. The ferry leaves every 3-4 hours, so remember to check the ferry times at https://www.skyss.no/ when planning your trip and beyond.
If you take the ferry from Fure at 15:50, you will be in Askvoll at 16:10, and take the express boat from Asvoll south towards Eivindvik or all the way to Bergen at 17:40. Check timetables here: https://www.norled.no/hurtigbat-ferje/
If you take a later ferry from Fure, you can stay overnight at Askvoll Fjordhotell until the next day. If you take an extra night, you can also visit the small stone cross outside Vilnes church on Atløy. The ferry from Askvoll to Gjervik runs approximately every hour. Check departures at https://www.skyss.no/.
Back in Askvoll, you can catch the southbound boat to Eivindvik or further to Bergen.
Have a good trip!
